Ham Radio in Essex and Middle River, Maryland since 1946
Welcome to the Club!
Welcome to Aero Amateur Radio Club! Serving Essex and Middle River, Maryland as a hub for radio enthusiasts in the local and greater Baltimore communities.
We meet in person on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at the Essex Skypark FBO (the private airports “fixed base of operations”) where we share knowledge, do activities, conduct club business and have fun. The Skypark hangar next door is our spot for the annual ARRL Field Day! All are welcome to visit!
Our membership form can be found here.
What is “ham radio”?
Amateur radio, a.k.a. “ham radio”, is a great hobby for people of all ages and backgrounds that involves engineering, design, construction and teamwork with one goal in mind: Getting on the air and contacting other like-minded hobbyists and enthusiasts from all of the county, the country and the world!
Likewise, amateur radio is a SERVICE, providing auxiliary communications in times of need or during civil emergencies. Operators (hams, if you prefer) are licensed by the FCC to serve and assist where possible with emergency communications. In other words, providing a service that they otherwise just do for fun!
